Cuckooing Through the Lens of Multiple Disadvantage

This two-hour training explores cuckooing through a safeguarding and trauma-informed lens, with a particular focus on how women experiencing multiple disadvantage are targeted. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the links between cuckooing, county lines, domestic abuse, and coercive control, as well as the legal frameworks that apply to these situations.

Description

Cuckooing is an increasingly prevalent form of criminal exploitation where perpetrators take over the homes of vulnerable individuals to facilitate illegal activity such as drug supply, organised crime, and sexual exploitation. It is frequently misidentified as anti-social behaviour, leading to responses that can unintentionally criminalise victims and increase the risk of homelessness.

The session will support housing, safeguarding and frontline professionals to recognise the signs of cuckooing, distinguish exploitation from tenancy breach, and respond in ways that prioritise victim safety while disrupting perpetrator behaviour. Practical guidance will be provided on trauma-informed engagement, multi-agency safeguarding responses, and how organisations can shift from enforcement-led approaches to survivor-centred practice.

This training includes an interactive case study discussion to help participants apply learning to real-world scenarios.

All online training fees are for up to 20 delegates (minimum 6 delegates to run a course).

DAHA prefer to cap online attendance at 20 to ensure all delegates feel able to fully engage. However, we can accommodate a maximum of 5 additional delegates upon request at a cost of £65 pp
