To equip professionals with the knowledge, empathy, and practical skills to effectively support women experiencing multiple disadvantage, with a focus on the intersections of domestic abuse, homelessness, substance use, mental health, and the criminal justice system.

Description

This training on Women and Multiple Disadvantage is designed to enhance understanding and confidence in supporting women facing intersecting disadvantages – particularly focusing on how homelessness, substance use, mental health and contact with the criminal justice system are linked with domestic abuse. Participants will:

  • Learn to define multiple disadvantage and explore how women’s experiences of domestic abuse differ from men’s.
  • Explore the profound impacts of trauma on women and how these experiences affect their engagement with services.
  • Develop greater empathy and practical skills to interact effectively with women navigating complex adversities, fostering a more informed, compassionate, and supportive approach in professional settings. 

Learning objectives

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

  • Define Multiple Disadvantage. 
  • Recognise how women’s experience of domestic abuse is different to men’s.  
  • Identify the impacts of trauma for women experiencing multiple disadvantage, and how this impacts engagement of services. 
  • Feel more confident in your interactions with and response to women experiencing multiple disadvantage.

This course has been designed specifically for professionals who work with women who may be experiencing multiple disadvantage from any sector, including:

  • Frontline professionals in housing and homelessness services
  • Health and social care
  • Specialist domestic abuse services
  • Criminal justice and probation professionals

Please note: This is a skills course so ideally delegates will have attended domestic abuse awareness training.

Course Timings

This course contains 1 module and is 3 hours long in total

This includes a comfort break, space for questions and time for the delegates to evaluate and reflect after the delivery.

In-person: £1050* (up to 25 delegates)

*Cost includes course facilitator travel expenses

 

Public Sector/Statutory (Local Authorities):

Virtual/online: £1500

DAHA Members: £1350

All online training fees are for up to 20 delegates (minimum 6 delegates to run a course).

DAHA prefer to cap online attendance at 20 to ensure all delegates feel able to fully engage. However, we can accommodate a maximum of 5 additional delegates upon request at a cost of £75 pp
